Aeroméxico to expand MRO services

By Edvaldo Pereira Lima | June 15, 2012

Aeroméxico (AM) will invest $30 million on a new maintenance facility at its Mexico City hub, which is scheduled to open in September, CEO Andrés Conesa told local media.
In addition, the Mexico City-based airline will build an MRO facility in a joint venture with Delta Air Lines (DL); each carrier will invest an estimated $20 million.
Construction of the second facility is scheduled to begin in the third quarter and should be completed by the 2013 third quarter. The location has not yet been determined but Guadalajara seems to be the favored destination. Monterrey, Toluca and Querétaro are also being considered.
DL acquired a 4.17% stake in Grupo Aeromexico´s capital stock earlier this month (ATW Daily News, June 5). The MRO station joint investment is part of a broader alliance both carriers agreed to last year. Together the two carriers offer 93 codeshare destinations, representing 733 daily flights.
DL is working to improve its presence in Latin America through alliances and investments. DL signed a long-term alliance with GOL Linhas Aéreas Inteligentes with a $100 million investment (ATW Daily News, Dec. 8, 2011), and codeshare agreements with Aerolíneas Argentinas.
